2012 the vintage collection wave 10 (wave 1)

hasbro released wave 10 (1 for 2012) or the phantom menace wave in january of 2012 to coincide with the released of 3d the phantom menace in the theaters.  this wave was originally plan for 2010 but was delayed so the wave would be out at  the same time as the movie.  the figures in this wave are mostly new version with exception of couple of reissued.  many of the figures in this wave made their appearance for the first time as action-figures including the much requested ben quadinaros and daultay dofine.  the figure numbering for this wave start at 75 because vc71 to 74 were removed to become wal-mart exclusive (released in 3d packaging), while the vintage style are scheduled to be available later.

the phantom menace

vc75 qui-gon jin

this figure is a reissued figure that had been reissued several times.  however, phantom menace wave would seriously be lacking if it was missing character like qui-gon.  the vintage packaging makes up for the deficientcy.

vc76 obi-wan kenobi

this is also another reissued figure in this wave.  again the vintage collection style cardback help makes up for figure that already seen so many re-releases.

vc77 ratts tyerell with pit droid

this is brand new figure (though not the first time he is available as an action-figure).  due to his small size, hasbro include a pit droid figure with ratts.

vc78 battle droid

this is also brand new sculpt of battle droid figure. the cardback looks great and fit in perfectly with vintage style cards.

vc79 darth sidious

darth sidous is a nice surprise for the phantom menace line up especially to have him with his palpatine's head instead of the deformed version.  like many of the new figures in this wave, darth sidious has extra feature, under his sith robe, you will find sidious in his sith outfit.

vc80 anakin skywalker (jedi padawan)

this is a strange choice for this character since jedi padawan version of young anakin only appeared briefly at the end of the movie.  this is also brand new figure and hasbro included several accessories to make up for the small size figure.

vc81 ben quadinaros

ben quadinaros is one of those figure that has been ask by fans to complete the pod racers line-up.  the alien design is very goofy just like many elements in episode 1 but it's still nice to have one more pod racer aliens (you can imagine them to be star wars cantina for the prequel generation).  his card also has sticker that this is the debut figure.

vc82 daultay dofine

this is also another figure long ask for by fans to complete the phantom menace figures line up and the neimoinian trios.  although nute gunray would probably be better choice for the phantom menace but most will rather get new never before seen figure rather than one that already had several releases.

vc83 naboo royal guard

this is also another brand new figure that has not been done before.  the figure is nicely sculpt and the cardback really fit in with vintage style.

vc84 queen amidala

another cross off the list figure, queen amidala in one of her many outfits.  this is one that has never been done and depicted amidala seen addressing the senate.  this is another great figure of amidala but the red dress would be more iconic for the phantom menace.  sometimes one wish that hasbro should just stick to releasing everything under vintage style cards.  the new movie heroes line is just hideous lookings.

vc85 quilan vos

quilan vos is one of those background character that get ret-con from expanded universe into the movies.  hasbro did excellent sculpt on this background character turned renegade jedi knight.  (one can't help but wonder why he didn't lend aid or even recognize qui-gon).

vc86 darth maul

just as obi-wan and qui-gon, darth maul is a must for any respectable wave to be call the phantom menace wave.  this is a brand new figure and one of the best darth maul on 10mm scale.  his cardback also looks great.  it's too bad, hasbro doesn't feel the same about darth tyrannus (dooku) and he is the only sith still curiously missing from the vintage line up.
