Packaging & Instruction

Microman 2004 came in beautifully done removable blister card style packaging. The backing card had very nice picture of the toy with all the accessories on display in the blister window. As a nice touch, the blister had the "O" design (in MICROMAN logo) molded on. While the cylinder tube 2003 series was nice and compact, the new blister was definitely more attractive looking.

AcroScorl was the most merciless of the X series Acroyear. He had extra muscular strength and the mysterious claw arms can caused massive earthquake.

Microman New Stand

Microman 2004 came with new style figure stand. The stand features Microman "Da Vinci" style logo emboss on clear plastic with two styles of pegs  - one for the newer Microman figures and one for the vintage figures with 5mm port.

Microman 2004 AX-11 AcroScorl was the first member of the Acroyear-X series. (Acroyear-X was the evil counterpart to Microman Master Force). The designs of the new Acroyears followed the King Walder designs (enemy of Henshin Cyborg) rather than that of the mechanical Acroyear designs from the original 1970's Microman line.  Because of this design concept, the new Acroyear-X might take some getting used to, but since the new Microman designs were more akin to the Henshin Cyborgs, having the bad guy followed the same design philosophy made a lot more sense than turning these villains into the mechanical beings from the vintage Microman.  However, as in Microman Master Force series, Acroyear-X had plenty of design elements that were homage to both Microman and Henshin Cyborg villains. AcroScorl probably had the most Henshin Cyborg King Walder feel to him than the other three, but there were plenty of hidden design elements from the Microman line.  The skeleton motif was a homage to KW Skeleton King but the demon claws over-the-shoulder look evoked the image of the Magne Power Acroyers look.  The head had fins like element that look a lot like Super Microman Arthur, one almost feel like Scrol was a zombie evil version of Arthur.  His head design was pretty cool looking with clear face shield over the skeleton chrome head.

AcroScorl had clear red body with black Gothic-like cross design on his legs, arms and body. His chest had gold skull symbol on the chest with gold motif design. (I know I have seen this design before somewhere but I can't seem to place it). Scorl's dark clear red and black color scheme work out very well and give him very demonic look. His body armor was metallic skeletons and bone with two giant demonic claws that hang over his shoulder. The mechanical demonic wings unfolded and became a pair of mechanical arms for AcroScorl (along the same idea as Doc Octopus from Marvel comic Spider-man) AcroScorl came with chrome staff that can be fitted onto his arm socket. He came with five extra replacement hands in black color. His armor fit well over his body and the shin guard armor also fit snugly (and actually were hard to remove). The only design problem with AcroScorl was the chrome plated ball joints on his wings. The joints if moved the wrong way worn out the chrome plating and caused the joint to become very loose. Also there were a lot of report of AcroScorl black parts such as the legs and arms joins and feet joints suffered from cracking. This problem seem to be mainly with black parts (and the same problem were reports on Microman Kicker joints which were also molded in black) It seem the black plastic used for these Microman 2004 were defective and suffer from stress crack. This was unfortunate and really blemish otherwise excellent new Microman figures.

Equipment Alternate Mode

AcroScorl was easily the best looking of the four Acroyear X designs. His color scheme, his design and his "theme" were probably the nicest looking. However, he was probably also the most typical design of the four new bad guys. The demon / skeleton / mechanical were standard parts of Microman / Henshin Cyborg lore so AcroScorl did not really injected any new imaginative elements into this long running series (unlike his other three companions). I am not sure if the nod to  Microman Arthur was intentional or just coincidental but I found it interesting to have Acroyear that took design elements from a Microman.
